Richard Sisk Bio
I am from Pascagoula, MS. Coming from a military family, I decided to enlist after I graduated high school and at 17 years old, I joined the Army. I spent 15 weeks at Fort Benning, GA where I graduated from basic training and infantry school. I was assigned to the 2nd Battalion 30th Infantry Regiment in 4th Brigade 10th Mountain Division at Fort Polk, LA where I served the majority of my time in the unit as a machine gunner. I deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from 2006-2007.
After an injury forced me to get out in March of 2008, I bounced around from job to job for about a year and a half. I decided to utilize my VA educational benefits and enrolled at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in the fall of 2009. After 2 semesters there, I decided to transfer to KSU in the summer of 2010 in order to be closer to my now wife. We now have a 2 year old son and are expecting a daughter soon. While enrolled at KSU, among other jobs, I worked as a work study in the KSU Veterans Resource Center. I graduated from KSU in the summer of 2013 and after a brief year in the workforce, that included some time spent at CNN as a tour guide, I came back to work for Kennesaw State with Military and Veteran Support Services as the Transition Coordinator.
